The last major tests before the 2024 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>To top it all off, the city of Paris will host the Summer Olympics in 2024. But one question remains. Will sports fans and weekend warriors flock to the stadium for the occasion? Over the last ten years or so, with the rise of streaming, the multiplication of channels and replay television, stadiums have been deserted by their former spectators. They are being abandoned for the comfort of home and, above all, for the charms of made-to-measure viewing. While the installation of Wi-Fi has helped to stem the systemic decline in stadium attendance, still too few have embarked on their digital transformation. With 2024 on the horizon, French stadiums are gearing up to offer their spectators a 360\u00b0 user experience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The 2024\u00a0game plan: stadiums going digital<\/h2>\n<p>French stadiums have four years to achieve their digital transformation. From 2019 to 2024, France looks forward to a crescendo sporting events program: the 2019 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup, the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, which France has been awaiting for 100 years, will be the three trial runs of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/success-fifa-worldcup-2018-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">digital transformation of stadiums<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The venues of these events are not all in Paris. The stadium of Nice, for example, will host the Women&#8217;s World Cup and the Olympic Games. While the French capital\u2019s Stade de France has invested massively in Wi-Fi coverage, many host stadiums may not meet the digital experience expectations of today\u2019s spectators, who are more used to multi-screen devices than live experiences. If their expectations go unmet, the drop in attendance might take a further plunge. To rise to the occasion, stadiums are looking into the question of <a href=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/festivals-wifi-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">connected stadiums<\/a>. Following in the footsteps of its neighbor, the Ernest Wallon Stadium, one of Europe\u2019s first connected stadiums, the Toulouse Stadium has set out to prepare for the 2023 rugby games. How? By deploying a Wi-Fi, fiber-based infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-19796\" src=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Experience-stade-1-1024x640.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Experience-stade-1-1024x640.png 1024w, https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Experience-stade-1.png 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Feeling at home in the stadium<\/h2>\n<p>With the <a href=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/digital-path-experience-museums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">advent of the digital revolution<\/a>, sports fans who used to attend live events have turned to enhanced viewing experiences in the comfort of their own homes. Watching a game has become a hyper-connected activity, smartphone in hand.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the paradigm seems to be on the verge of being reversed. However desirable, hyper-connection has its drawbacks: it makes spectators grow tired of screens and paradoxically breaks real social ties. It makes consumers long for experiences that are more rooted in the real world. Thus, those stadiums that are <a href=\"https:\/\/marketingproximity.com\/en\/white-papers\/white-paper-wi-fi-strategic-lever-in-digital-transformation-of-sports-venues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">implementing a phygital strategy<\/a>, half-way between live show and augmented digital experience, are best positioned to meet spectators\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n<p>With one constraint however: spectators who wanted to be at home like at the stadium now wish to be at the stadium with the comfort of home, using their smartphones as remote controls \u2026and with food readily available at their fingertips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Delivering a 360-degree\u00a0sporting experience<\/h2>\n<p>By 2024, stadiums\u2019 broadband <a href=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/connected-cities-wifi-tourist-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wi-Fi will enable<\/a> a comprehensive, 360-degree sporting experience. The\u00a0live\u00a0experience, coupled with big-screen viewing and connected to fiber optics, will augment the spectator experience by providing additional information and action (slow motion replays, players\u2019 portraits, contests, voting for the match\u2019s best player, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>In parallel, expanded Wi-Fi coverage will <a href=\"https:\/\/marketingproximity.com\/en\/engagement\/#marketingProximite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">optimize the customer experience<\/a> beyond the usual snack-bar. Certain stadiums now offer hotel services. For instance, the Stade Oc\u00e9ane of Le Havre is the first French stadium to open a hotel, the 1872 Stadium Hotel, on its own grounds. In 2019, it will open a sports bar and grill seating 350 plus 500 at the bar. Customers will be able to book a hotel room and a table for two from their stadium seats in just a few clicks on <a href=\"https:\/\/ucopia.weblib-test.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/captive-portal-ucopia-communication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">their smartphone connected to Wi-Fi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stadiums that are suffering from a drop in attendance cannot do without the digital transformation.
